Why walk thru life, when you can dance?

I am a social partner dance instructor. I teach Swing (Ease Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Jitterbug, Jive), Latin (Salsa, Mambo, Cumbia, Cha-Cha, Bachata, Merengue), Foxtrot, Nightclub 2-step, Country 2-step, Blues Dancing, and line dancing.

Brides and grooms come to me for dance lessons with one simple request: “We just don’t want our first dance to look stupid”.

Sometimes the couple knows the type of dance they want. But often times they don’t have a clue. I take their song and decide type of dance that will best fit. I take them through some simple, basic steps. We practice, and I even choreograph one or two special moves for special moments in the song

Bride, grooms, parents of the bride, and sometimes even friends of the couple, come to me several weeks before the wedding — to feel more comfortable on the dance floor. Every dance comes out different, because I customize the dances to the couples, and their choice of first dance songs. It’s very fun.

I also conduct communication workshops for couples that illustrate good communication, active listening skills and collaboration using dance to illustrate best practices in all of the above. Partner social dancing can be a practical and visible tool for communication techniques. I think it would be great if more engaged couples take partner dance classes to understand the various roles, connection, good frame and active listening techniques that are the cornerstone to good partner dancing and good partnering in life.
