Differences between a Local Wedding and Destination Wedding
Weddings are beautiful, significant events for the couple getting married, as well as their families and friends who stand to bear witness to their union. Planning a wedding usually starts with where the wedding is going to be held. The wedding venue can be a local one, or it could be a destination wedding. What are the differences between these two, and why should it even matter?
Getting Married – A Local Wedding
A local wedding is one that is held within the locality of where the couples live, or at least one of the couples. It could take place in the family church, at an event center, on one’s property…the list goes on. A local wedding usually means that there is no need for travel, as the wedding would be taking place where most of the family and friends already live.
Local weddings can be quite heavy on a budget, as everyone the couple knows may put in an attendance at the event. This would mean getting more services and products from caterers, obtaining a venue large enough to accommodate every guest that comes, et cetera.
A local wedding narrows down one’s options of a wedding venue: however, one may be able to decorate their wedding venue to their taste, giving their wedding location a different and unforgettable vibe.
Getting Married – A Destination Wedding
A destination wedding is one that is held in a location that is different from the couple’s locality; an out-of-town venue. Destination weddings usually require some travel, and can take place anywhere: a castle, on the beach in an exotic area, on a yacht, at a resort and spa, et cetera.
For a destination wedding, traveling is necessary, and this helps the couple to narrow down their guest list. With a specific number of guests coming to the wedding, catering for them would be well-budgeted and executed without a hitch.
Destination wedding planners specialize in destination wedding affairs, and couples can meet up with them and discuss what they want in a destination venue, find out about flights and prices, catering and seating capacity; and room and board for the expected guests.
A destination wedding is preferable to a local wedding, as it seems local weddings cost more than destination weddings. With a destination wedding, the couple can pick a venue that could also be their honeymoon. Destination weddings also allow couples to give their parents a two-day vacation as they travel to their wedding. The differences between local and destination weddings are quite glaring, and it would be advisable to go for a destination wedding, rather than have a local wedding.
