Italy is a great wedding destination for many couples. Before you can get legally married in Italy, there are several steps for you to follow. Arriving in Italy a few days before the big day is advisable as there is paperwork to be done. This needs to complete on the morning of your wedding day. Also, ensure you confirm the process as it’s different for the different nationalities.

The ceremonies are often performed by a civil officer or city mayor. Here, consider having a translator if you don’t speak Italian. Copies of driver’s licenses for the couple and their witnesses are required.

Marco da Bollo Stamps: you need to purchase 2 Revenue Stamps from tabacchi stores to enable your visit to the Prefettura.
Legalizing the Nulla Osta: With both your Nulla Osta’s, the documents need to be legalized using an Apostille stamp at the provincial Italian Government Agency, the Prefettura.

Once the documents, their translations, and Apostille are ready, you need to present yourselves before the town hall to make your intent to marry declaration. Often 2 days before the wedding day. For Italians, a post of your marriage banns needs to be posted. Then wait for two Sundays before having your civil ceremony.
The Wedding
Two witnesses need to be present; the ceremony will be officiated by the Mayor or their assistant.
The Marriage Certificate
